SHAMANISM - Overview

Shaman Woman 1

This is only a general overview of shamanism. This is only to familiarize you with the some of the guidelines and terms used in both traditional and contemporary shamanic experiences.

Shaman is one of the few spiritual paths that has remained relatively unchanged through the centuries. While many spiritual paths have evolved into the many practices of neo-pagan groups and Christian frequency religions, Shamanism has outlasted the test of time which leads to its continued popularity. There is no way for any website or book to translate the necessary training nor experience of Shamanism. One must study with a teacher or Master to truly have the shamanic ecstasy referred to.

What is shamanic ecstasy? The word itself comes from a Greek term ekstasis meaning to be placed outside. This is a state of joy that transcends the ability to describe in words. It literally means to enter a form of trance or state of consciousness that allows the shaman to journey to stand outside of themselves. During the state of this Shamanic ecstasy, a Shaman is journeying to engage in a soul retrieve, to guide the soul or the dead, to divine answers or to add their personal knowledge by associating with higher beings.

The Shaman may also enter a state that is for pure Prophetical purposes during this journey. This form of Divination is seen many times during the workings of John the Baptist. It is a seership that is entered in which they are retrieving certain information in regards to the events of the future.

The last state we will discuss is the state of Mystical journey. This is when the Shaman enters a state of consciousness to become closer with the Divine Masters. This state of trance is usually done through the use of mantras and tends to bring a greater or higher level of spiritual understanding and awareness. Many Shaman uses meditation, contemplation, visualization or spiritual concentration as well as mantras to reach this state. This is a state of consciousness that allows the out of body journeys so often referred to by contemporary Shamanic journeys. They invoke physiological, emotional and intuitive responses. On the physiological response, the body will exhibit an involuntary response related to being electrically charged. The emotions of the Shaman can run a gauntlet of feelings and emotions that can range from complete overwhelming joy to a shocking fear. The mind and body completely blend together allowing an expanded state of consciousness for greater awareness.

It is important to note that this is not the same state of consciousness that is referred to as astral projection or transcendental meditation that is so popular in today's New Age groups.

A traditional Shaman is one who is associated with a group or tribe of gathering or hunting peoples. This can be anything from Native Americans to the aborigine groups of South America. It is not to say that a contemporary Shaman of today that follows traditional practices lives in the middle of the forest by themselves or in a tribe. It does, however, imply that every Shaman I have met is involved/participates on some level with a society of traditional nature and engage with training within this tribe. For the most part, these societies will not train one who is not part of their own tribe. In certain cases, this has happened; however, it is the exception, not the rule.

There are modern neo-Shamans who practice principles of Shamanism but have not engaged in the traditional initiations and training of Shamanism. Does this make them less of Shamans? No. In all Shamanic cultures, the basis of a Shaman is a healer and spiritual consultant. Although in many cultures they also have other roles in which they participate such as the priest, the primary role of a Shaman always has been the interaction of the people and the Spirit World to enlighten and heal.

By definition, a Shaman is a person who can enter the described state of consciousness at will.

Shamanism is considered by many as the oldest form of spiritual practice. It does predate all known religions. It is important to understand that Shamanism is not a religion in itself. It is simply a set of beliefs, behaviours and guidelines followed by a select few. These beliefs and practices allow the Shaman to obtain information unavailable to others, heal, retrieve souls and seek ancestor guidance.

As stated, it is in its traditional form nearly unchanged over the centuries. The best description I have heard is from Tom Cowan's book Shamanism: As a Spiritual Practice for Daily Life, Shamanism "...draws upon what is best in our society while it reforms those areas harmful to the human spirit and the health of the planet."

The word Shaman is from the Tungus word to mean "to know". Tungus are a tribe located in the Altai Mountains in Siberia. In the Tungus language, the word means a way of life, experience and belief. There are some who say that the word came from a Tibetan word Samana which is the word for a Buddhist monk. The word is, in relative comparison, a word. The derivative of the word is insignificant as the definition remains the same in every debate. It has come to represent a variety of persons from Witchdoctors, medicine men, diviners and healers. The Shaman may go by a variety of names in these various traditions, but all practice nearly identical techniques. From the Angakok's of the Eskimos to the Geilt of the Celtics, they are persons who have the ability to reach the hidden truth accessible only by a journey to the Otherworld.

What is Shamanism really? It is not a person, it is not a religious path, it is not a spiritual calling. Shamanism is an avocation. The ability to reach the altered state of consciousness in journey upon stated will is what makes a shaman a shaman. It is what defines the term.

There are two primary ways of becoming a Shaman.
Hereditary. Literally having a Shaman in the family. This never happens in neo-shamans.
The receiving of the Call. This is being appointed by the tribe or choosing to do so of your own free will. The self-taught, self-made Shaman is never as powerful as the appointed tribal Shaman or the hereditary Shaman.

What is receiving the call? The first is being appointed. The Shaman is selected as an apprentice from an early age because of some difference in personality. A solitude seeker or some sort of fit that causes a mental unbalance. This is not the same thing as a mental disorder that is often confused in modern times with epilepsy. The Call is simply a temporary moment of a shift of consciousness unfamiliar to the person. In many cases it comes with other patterns such as being attacked by an animal, struck by lightning or a near-death experience. It is common for a hereditary Shaman to receive this call from an ancestral Shaman relative to indicate it is their time.

A personal choice is a conscious decision that a person makes to study the beliefs and practices of the Shaman. For most, this self-appointed Shaman will remain less powerful and less likely to experience the state of communication with the Otherworld as compared to the appointed or hereditary Shaman. This is the path that most neo-Shamans follow.

The traditional apprentice of the Shaman will follow oral teachings of their ancestral lineage or from their tribal leader. This training can happen in two different methods. One is an ecstatic method which is training through vision and dream. This training is done by the ancestral guide or spirit guide and involves a definite initiation into the Otherworld. No book or article can exchange this information or even come close to describing the experience. The second method is traditional training by a current Shaman or tribal elder. This is the typical training of today's Shaman.

The neo-Shaman training of engaging in reading how-to books or attending a seminar should only be the journey to lead to a teacher qualified to teach the practice and beliefs.

The initiation of the Shaman is a phenomenon that is so involved that it has been known to cause death or permanent disability. In some traditions, organs are actually removed and replaced with a crystal or other object. Many do not survive the initiation process. It is said the reasoning for the physical initiation first is to ensure the readiness and worthiness of the Shaman. This is only the first part of the process. The second is the initiation into the Otherworld. This is an initiatory dream or vision that includes a ritualistic death that last three days. In many cases, it has been described as the Shaman being dismembered and reconstructed by the Divine.

Many in the neo-Shamanic belief reproduce this experience through meditation or drugs. It is vital to understand that in no way does the use of drugs have any place in traditional Shamanic belief, ritual or initiation. That is not considered shifting consciousness at will by traditional Shaman, but rather the manipulation of free will.

The initiation of Shamans regardless of a process will have a common theme. The Shaman will have a ritual dismemberment of the body and the replacement of organs with another matter such as crystals. It will include time alone in the wilderness, being symbolically dead, symbolically descending into the Spirit world through a self-induced trance, a following of training ending with the rite of passage through torture. It is not a joyous easy process that is related by some neo-Shamanic groups. It is not a walking into a bright light and a feeling of joyous release. It is filled with highly ritualistic feats that test the pain and fear of the Shaman. It is not a five-minute process. It can take days to complete. The purpose is to embark on a spiritual or prophetical quest which will prove one's worthiness as a Shaman.

The role f the Shaman varies greatly in cultural areas. They are truly dependent upon the natural gifts of the Shaman. There are some who are medicine men, warriors, priests or even a simple carpenter. The service of the Shaman will always be the same - healing the spirit. Not always a healer of the body, but always a healer of the spirit. A Shamans primary functions are for soul-extraction, -retrieval, and -restoration. Soul extraction is the process of removing the soul from that which is attacking it either psychically, spiritually, or mentally. The soul-retrieval is the process of retrieving pieces of soul that are lost. This will always require assistance from the Other World. The beings of the Other World will assist the Shaman in determining what is wrong with the person, finding why the piece is missing, lost, or stolen and to do battle to retrieve the missing pieces. The soul restoration is literally what it says. When a person is near death a soul will want to move on. The Shaman can assist in guiding the soul to where it needs to go.

Many Shamans has natural gifts, this is especially true of hereditary Shaman. Herbal healing is one such way. Herbal healing goes back for centuries and is why many cultures looked at the Medicine Man as the Shaman. A Shaman may be a Medicine Man. A Medicine Man is not always a Shaman.

Bodywork and hands-on healing through modularities of Reiki, massage, energy work is the energy or spirit of the Shaman practices. Divination or prophecy, dream work, vision quests, soul leading and spiritual healing are all others natural gifts of the Shaman. Again, it is important to remember that a person can be Shaman and have any, all or none of these healing gifts. A person can have one or all of the healing gifts and not be a Shaman.

One misconception is that all Shaman shapeshifts into animals. Not all Shamans possess this ability. Not all who possess this ability are Shamans. Shapeshifting is the ability to change your physical form into an animal or change the physical form in the astral plane to a particular power animal. While most Shaman can do this, it is not an ability that defines Shamanic practices.

Another misconception is that black Shamans are evil. There are not white or black Shamans. Just as with other spiritual movements that discuss workings of white magic and black magic, it is not the ability to work within the Divine Spirit or Spirit Worlds that define white or black - but rather the intent of the one working within these realms. This is true of every being. There are no evil or bad spirits but rather the intent of the person working with the spirits that determine the positive or negative influence.

In many tribal cultures, the Other World or Spirit World is not as the rest of the Spiritual paths think of. For example, in some cultures, there are nine levels heaven while in other cultures there is only this world and Dream time. Most look at three worlds as the symbolic levels. These are the upper, middle, and lower worlds. These are the levels that most neo-shaman will speak off. These are the worlds that are located on the Tree of Life. Symbolically the Upper World is the world of the branches. Where spirits and gods are. The trunk is the middle world and is the here and now. The roots are the lower world and is considered a very powerful place. It is the place of the ancestral knowledge and where many answers lie hidden.

The process of how Shaman travel is widely variant in the description. This is partly due to the inability to express into words certain aspects of the Shamanic journey. It can be described by some as travelling the tunnels of life. The Tree Life being the central object to travel through. The roots leading to tunnels to both the upper and lower worlds. There are some who speak of the inner tunnels being the chakra system. There is no right or wrong description. The variance in terminology is based solely on the culture of the Shaman and the creative imagination of relating the indescribable to the world.

The actual journeying to the Otherworld is leaving the here and now and allowing the spirit to leave the body and journey to the spirit realm. This Shamanic state of consciousness is both a trance state and a learned state of being completely aware of whats occurring and in control of the situation. A guided journey is merely a journey to learn and has no comparison to the Shamanic state of consciousness. A guided journey is different in one vital way. A Shamanic journey is at will and instant. A guided journey is where a guide (spirit, animal or of this world) takes control of the dream or meditation and leads you to where they want you to go. It is not always pleasant. Much like other types of Shamanic journeys, this is not a simple joyful encounter. The purpose is to take the Shaman to a place where they can learn and grow in their powers. It is where they can meet and learn from the guide lessons that are vital in their training.

The guides referred to are spirit helpers. They can be an ancestral god or figure, animal totem, or Shamanic ancestors. An animal totem or power totem is something that has special powers or meanings to that particular Shaman. It is more important as to the way the totem represents rather than what it is.

There are no rules, nor rides in being a Shaman. There are certain beliefs and behaviours that guide a Shaman. A moral code of ethics of sorts. They are truths for the Shaman. For example, the physical world has physics and boundaries that are linear. The Spirit world is not bound to inflexible laws of the physical world. All in life is connected and interdependent upon one another. All power is connected to life. The shaman must know the entrance and exit to the Other World. There are beliefs and behaviours that Shamans must follow that are innate to their souls.

Bright blessings,

Health beyond the Physical: CHINESE MEDICINE and Mental Health

College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Xin...

Sometimes, common ailments for not feeling well or functioning at a higher level don’t come from the virus that is going around.  Most are learning that there is physical pain that is linked to emotional and mental symptoms as well.  If you are suffering from a mental pain, and want to find a way to get healing outside of therapy, you can turn to Chinese medicine for help.

Problems with mental health are now being found to directly link to physical pain.  One example is with things such as depression.  Those who suffer from depression will also commonly have headaches, stomach pains, or have low levels of energy.  According to science, as well as Chinese medicine, these mentalities are directly linked to the mind.

There are specific hormones, nerves and chemicals that are affected by one’s mentality.  When one is suffering from a specific mental illness, there are different levels of chemicals that are produced to try and rebalance the body.  Take the example of depression again.  When one is depressed, there will be extra levels of serotonin produced in the mind in order to try to balance this.  The effect is that the body becomes imbalanced from the emotion.

Because of the evidence of mental and physical health being linked together, there is also a need to find alternatives for healing.  There are several types of medications that are available; however, some find that these simply cause more side effects or don’t work.  Because of this, there is a turn towards Chinese medicine in order to help cure the problem.  By using herbs, massage techniques and even acupuncture, the mental health can begin to change back to a normal level.

If you are suffering from any type of mental imbalance, using holistic approaches may be able to help you find a cure.  Chinese medicine will focus directly on finding ways to alternate the flow of energy from the problems and redirect the energy into better mental health.  If you are looking for alternatives, Chinese medicine may be a positive cure.

Treatments for Asperger's Syndrome

Autism - Photo: Pixabay
There is not one set treatment for Asperger's syndrome. You will not find a medication that will cure a child with Aspergers. Instead, you will find several treatments to help with the problems associated with Asperger's syndrome. Here we will examine some of the treatments used with Asperger's syndrome.

Social Skills Training

Children with Asperger's syndrome have a hard time understanding facial expressions, and tone of voice. They tend to take everything said to them very literally. They do not know when a person is joking with them. Children can be taught to recognize changes in peoples voice, and what different facial expressions mean. They also need to be taught how to use better eye contact. This type of training can help the child to make friends. They are taught how to act around other people. Some children with Aspergers want to be around other kids, they just do not know how to act with them. They can be taught how to act when out shopping, or at a restaurant.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy

This type of therapy teaches the child with Asperger's syndrome to find ways to cope. They are taught ways to reduce anxiety. They learn how to spot a situation that can cause them trouble. Then they learn techniques to cope when they are in that situation. Asperger's children often have a lot of anxiety. They have a hard time in social settings. They can have anxiety attacks or complete meltdowns. The Cognitive therapy teaches them ways to stop the meltdowns from occurring. This therapy will teach a child with Aspergers that when they feel an unwanted behaviour coming on something they can do to stop it. They are taught how to remove themselves from a situation that makes them uneasy.

There is no medication that will treat Aspergers. However, there is medication to help with some of the symptoms of Aspergers. Many children with Aspergers have anxiety and depression. There are medications that can help relieve these problems. Relieving the anxiety can help the child feel more comfortable in social settings. Medications like these can have side effects. You will need to monitor your child's behaviour while they are on the medication. Some children with Aspergers have a hard time sleeping. There are medications to help the child sleep.

Parenting Education

There is training for the parents of Asperger's children. This training consists of ways you can deal with behaviours.  Learning things that can help to calm your child down when they are having a meltdown, or anxiety attack. Parents are taught ways of using reward systems to control behaviour problems. They are taught how to deal with the behaviours in the home. This helps them to deal with behaviours in other places too.

With these treatments, the life of an Asperger's child can be easier. If no treatment is given children with Aspergers can have trouble with depression, and anxiety. They have such a hard time dealing with people socially they might turn to alcohol or drugs to relax them. Getting a treatment plan that works is a number one priority for your Aspergers child.

Learn How to Study RUNES From the Beginning

Runes For Beginners

Runes. Runes. Runes. What are they? How should you use them?

The Runes have been around since time immemorial. In recent history (the past 2000 years) they have surfaced three times in the affairs of man. The first time was about 1000 years ago when the Vikings held sway in the world. They took them on their Dragon Long Ships and left traces of them on stones and monuments throughout the world.

They rose are again in Germany at the turn 20th Century and Guido Von List and other German Mystics once more empowered them.

Now they are making another resurgence throughout the world. They have been used to write, to the divine, to encrypt graves and tombstones,  to bless ships, to empower weapons and to perform magic.

But what are they? They are symbols, keys to the Universal Creative Energies. They are energies that can be attracted and projected without any regard to distance or time. They can be used to recreate your life.

The Age of Aquarius, which we have just entered, has given us the Laws of Quantum Physics. These laws prove that the Runes are energies and can be used to better your life.

Simply stated the Laws of Quantum Physics tell us that there exists an infinite Ocean of thinking, intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean. Spiritually it is the Mind of the Creator God. The God who created all other Gods. There is no time nor space in the Quantum Ocean only the HERE-NOW.

Everything that ever was is or will be contained within the Quantum Ocean the Runes are there and have always been there.

The Quantum Ocean responds to our thoughts and symbols. Whatever you think or whatever symbol you use connects you directly to the corresponding Energy in the Quantum Ocean.

Therefore Runes are symbols for the Creative Energies of the Universe contained in the Quantum Ocean.

To begin to meditate on each of the 18 Runes of the Armanen Futhark. In this way, you will attract the energies of the Runes into your Aura. Whatever energies you carry in your Aura attracts your life to you.

Do not be concerned at this time with Rune History, Rune Mythology, Rune Monuments, etc. Get the Rune energy inside of you. Take one Rune a day and look and meditate on it for 15 minutes. Only be concerned with one Key Word per Rune so you will know exactly what energies you are attracting into your Aura.

Now Begin. Rune FA - Wealth; Rune UR - Health; Thorn - Protection; Os - Wisdom; Rit - Intuitions; KA - Creativity; Hagal - Universe; Not - Karma; Is - Self; Ar - Honor; Sig - Victory; Tyr - Courage; Bar - Birth; Laf - Law; Man - Masculinity; Yr - Femininity; Eh - Marriage; Gibor - God. The trip of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

Standing On The Shores Of LOCH NESS

The rocky shoreline of Loch Ness, Scotland
The rocky shoreline of Loch Ness, Scotland (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Locked in the vaults of Scottish legend lies an enigmatic stretch of water famous the world over. Within the wells of Celtic folklore, the mystery of Loch Ness has baffled scientists for decades.

Loch Ness sits in the north of Scotland, near the town of Inverness. It forms part of a series of lochs running from the Irish Sea on the east coast, over to the North Sea on the western shoreline, almost dividing the country in half.

Loch Ness is the deepest body of water in the United Kingdom. Despite its natural beauty and standing as a tourist attraction in its own right, of course, the real reason Loch Ness achieves cult status is the legend of the Loch Ness Monster.

Since those first blurred, black and white photographs from the first half of the twentieth century, the legend of the Loch has kept the world captivated; countless scientific expeditions have failed to reach a conclusion, elevating the monster myth.

Standing on the shores of Loch Ness, I have come here to experience the aura and mystery which has besieged the entire neighbourhood.

Drawn by a desire to meet the land and its people, I headed north from England, navigating the secluded mountain roads and low winter sun.

The journey trod a magnificent path through the bleak Scottish mountains, the neighbouring landscape carpeted with a blanket of snow. An immense feeling of isolation gripped me along the open roads, greeting little other traffic.

This was quintessential Scotland, just as nature had intended. Vast, wide open spaces, with barely a sole to witness, civilisation stripped to its bare bones. Life’s fundamentals were all this place required.

The water rippled gently about my feet as I stared deeply across the water’s surface, clear, but for several birds bobbing on the surface. I felt the answer to the legend was out there somewhere, but it was going to take a better man than me to work it out. I was simply here to enjoy the ride.

There’s a romance about the uncertainty. The enigma drives the tourist trade, on which the livelihoods of many people depend. But it’s not just about money. The people here are proud to be associated with such an iconic landmark.

To be honest, I’m undecided whether the truth – either one way or the other – is what people really want. I get the impression the majority of locals feel the same way.

Learning About Maori REIKI

Maori Reiki is one of the many forms of the popular Reiki system of spiritual healing. And just like the original Reiki system, it is considered to be a part of alternative medicine. There are many types of Reiki spiritual healing now available. Most of the prominent ones include Dragon Reiki, Gendai Reiki, Brahma Satya Reiki and the Shamanic Reiki. Maori Reiki is just one of these many forms.

The different forms of Reiki spiritual healing were usually developed in the place where they originated from. Geography alone plays a big part in the development of these different forms of Reiki. As for the Maori Reiki, it was developed from a unique tribe found in New Zealand called the Maoris.

The Maori people are considered as a very spiritual tribe with many of their beliefs based on the spiritual aspect of life. The Maori tribe has developed their own way of spiritual healing through their years of existence. The unique spiritual healing practice has been handed down from generation to generation. The tradition has been carried on by some of the descendants of the Maori tribe even today.

Although the Maori Reiki form of spiritual healing may be similar in some ways with the other Reiki systems, it also has its own distinction over them. The Maori Reiki form of spiritual healing is based a lot on trying to cleanse the body of any spiritual and physical toxic waste.  Healing of the body is achieved through getting rid of the spiritual and physical wastes accumulated through the many years.

The main aim of Maori Reiki masters is to cleanse both the body and soul.  An excess of waste in the body can slow down and make people feel physically drained and fatigued, thereby affecting daily life.  The same thing happens if a person is carrying a lot of spiritual toxic waste. This type of waste can lead to a multitude of negative feelings in a person.

Maori Reiki can help people get rid of these physical and spiritual toxins as well as the negative energy that they create. By releasing these toxins, only then can people begin to feel both physically and spiritually whole and balanced once again.

Another difference that Maori Reiki may have on other Reiki systems is that it employs the use of natural objects that help the Maori Reiki master to heal people physically and spiritually.  The natural objects particularly used include certain types of wood that carry with them some spiritual properties.

Gemstones, crystals and natural stones are also some of the natural objects that Maori Reiki masters use to heal the spirit and the body.  The use of herbs and other natural remedies that also carry spiritual and healing properties is also employed to further aid the Maori Reiki master.

In a typical Maori Reiki session, it is essential that a person needs to get in touch with more nature. This is the initial belief since the past generations of the Maori tribe were very naturalistic and holistic in their approach to healing.  By using the tools that nature has provided for them, Maori Reiki masters can use the energy that these objects impart to aid healing people from the inside out.

People can experience the unique Maori Reiki spiritual healing treatments if they are dealing with a multitude of physical and emotional stress. Substance abuse or drug addiction may also be alternatively treated using the Maori Reiki system.

wick of a candle Ελληνικά: φιτίλι κεριού
Wick of a candle (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
The use of candles for light and heat is known to have existed in ancient times. The remains of candles have been found in the caves of France. It is believed that cavemen used them while painting and etching on the walls. It is believed those candles were made out of animal fat. The Egyptians used candles as well by dripping beeswax onto leave stems. The burning process of a candle involves the four basic elements of matter which are solids, liquids, gas, and plasma.

Today candle making is a fun hobby or craft. For some, it is a very profitable business venture. Candle making provides you with the ability to create wonderful designs and crafts out of your candles. There is no limit to the shapes, sizes, and colors you can make your candles in. A candle is a device to provide light or fragrance. Candles have become very popular for the wonderful aromas more than for their ability to produce light. Some candles give off a popular smell such as vanilla or jasmine. Others smell like a chocolate cake or cinnamon rolls.

The body of a candle is generally made of paraffin wax. It can also be made out of beeswax. Paraffin wax is a natural wax that comes from plants. This wax can be purchased from Petroleum Refinery or the Specialty Wax Processor. Beeswax is also considered a natural wax and is taken from honeybees. This is the substance the bees use to construct their honeycombs. A wick is placed in the center of the wax before it dries. The wick is made of cotton fibers that have been braided together. The wick is very thin, but also very powerful. Sometimes candle makers will use a wick that is wider than normal to increase the size of the flame.

Safety is a very important part of candle making. The temperature of the hot wax can result in severe burns. There is also the risk of fire. Make sure your candle making area is set up properly and that you have a fire extinguisher in the area. Clean up spills quickly as they will become very slick, leading to falls if you walk across them.

To make candle making fun instead of frustrating, a start will making simple candles. This is a great opportunity for you to discover what works well with your set up and gives you the chance to make necessary changes. Initially, work at implementing good safety habits and melting your wax at the proper temperatures. You will also want to experiment with your cooling process. Once you have these areas down, you will start to relax and the process will become more natural to you. This is the right time to start experimenting with dyes, scents, and shapes for your candles.

The candle making process is easy to follow if you take your time and learn from your mistakes. Those who are impatient and take multitasking to an extreme will most likely not enjoy the art of candle making. However, it is very enjoyable by those who have plenty of time to take with the process and who enjoy creating things. Candle making supplies aren’t expensive so use the best you can. This will also help ensure your candles form well and burn properly.

Benefits of FISH OIL for Fitness and Health

Fish oil caps
Photo  by Stephen Cummings
When the words oils and fats are mentioned, health-conscious individuals tend to run for cover. What they fail to realize is that there are good fats and bad fats. Complete avoidance of intake of oils and fats would actually be detrimental – rather than beneficial – to their health.

The Truth about Fish Oil
Essential fatty acids must always be part of our daily diet – without them, we take one step closer to our deaths. Essential fatty acids are divided into two families: omega-6 EFAs and omega-3 EFAS.

Although there are only very slight differences to distinguish the two groups of essential fatty acids from each other, studies have revealed that too much intake of omega-6 EFAs can lead to inflammation, blood clotting, and tumor growth. The good news, however, is that the opposite is true for omega-3 EFAs. Omega-6 EFAs can be found in vegetable oils while omega-3 EFAs can be found in fish oils among other foods.

Omega-6 vs. Omega-3
Physicians and scientists are of the same opinion that the cause behind increasing cases of heart disease, hypertension or high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, premature aging and certain kinds of cancer is none other than an imbalanced intake of omega-3 and omega-6 EFAs.

As mentioned earlier on, omega-6 EFAs can be found in vegetable oils. This includes but is not limited to corn oil and soy oil, both of which contains high amounts of linoleic acid. Omega-3 EFAs, on the other hand, can be found also in marine plankton and walnut and flaxseed oils. It should be significant to take note that fatty fish and fish oils contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), fatty acids that have been observed to provide many benefits to the human body. In the early 1970’s, a study on Greenland Eskimos has revealed that one of the major reasons why they rarely suffer from heart diseases is because of their high-fat diet (mainly composed of fish).

The two essential fatty acids, EPA and DHA, are also helpful in preventing atherosclerosis, heart attacks, depression and various forms of cancer. Fish oil supplemented food have also proven to be useful in treating illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, Raynaud’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Other Benefits of Fish Oil
There are a lot more illnesses and situations in which intake of fish oil has proven to be significantly beneficial.

Making the Heart Healthier
The heart is inarguably one of the most important parts of our body and having an unhealthy heart means having to suffer a rather limited lifespan. Naturally, it’s in our best interests to keep our hearts happy and healthy and one way of doing that is eating food that contains fish oil.

In Athens, Greece, for instance, a study was made to show if there was a direct relationship between high fish diet and inflammation of blood vessels. The results revealed that those who ate more fish than the others had a lower level of C-reactive protein and interleukin-6, factors that are commonly used to measure the likelihood of blood vessel inflammation. These benefits remained even when the various risks associated with high fish diet were taken into account.

Fish to Become Thin
In Perth, Australia, a study had revealed that fish consumption can be used against hypertension and obesity. Researchers of the UWA (University of Western Australia) have discovered that a weight-loss diet which includes a regular amount of fish consumption can be quite effective in reducing blood pressure and improving glucose tolerance.

Fish Oil to Combat Asthma
People suffering from respiratory problems like asthma tend to be perceived as unfit and unhealthy. They should now be pleased to learn that certain studies have revealed the benefits of fish oil for asthma-burdened-individuals. Statistics show that approximately 20 to 25% of children today suffer one form of asthma or another at a certain point in their lives. And certain evidence reveals a regular diet of food with high linoleic acid content as the reason behind it.

Researchers of UW (University of Wyoming) conducted a study by subjecting a number of children to a high-fish diet while others continued with their regular diet. Results revealed that the participants who ate more fish were less prone to asthma attacks and were able to breathe more easily as well.

Consult Your Nutritionist Now
Nothing is good when consumed or used excessively but complete avoidance of a particular food type is equally harmful as well. Ask your nutritionist for the right amount of fish intake for your age and health status.

Dementia, Colloidal Gold The Memory Loss Tonic & Stress Relief Too

Dementia - Photo: Pixabay
Dementia is spreading like a disease. If you find yourself laughing about your memory loss and excusing it with your age…maybe the solution is truly golden…

Colloidal = a solid (in this case gold) of minute particles, that remain in suspension in a surrounding liquid (in this case de-ionized water).

Gold has always been the prize of desire, but now the elixir of choice? We know that this precious metal has been a primary building block of the body. Very little research is underway to find how such a crucial metal in our body is being lost and not constantly replenished.

Europeans have long used colloidal gold as a supplement in their diet to replenish this key element of the body. In using colloidal gold as a supplement, arthritis sufferers noticed reduced swelling and pain. In some cases, the pain was eliminated entirely. Extensive European studies and use showed that stress levels were controlled and that depression and anxiety faded away while patients diets were supplemented with colloidal gold.

The overseas reports conclude that colloidal gold has a most positive effect on the nerve structure and brain. Gold is one of the best conductors of electricity, it isn’t at all surprising that the supplementing of gold to a body that is gold depleted, would improve the overall function of the nervous system including an improved memory and quicker thought processes.

Memory loss comes with age and is joked about by the “50 and over” crowd. However, memory loss is temporary and can be improved. Mental exercises, diet, and supplements have shown that memory loss can be avoided or reversed and in most cases improved.

Dementia can be caused by several factors such as stroke, circulation, Alzheimer’s and more but the common thread is poor conductivity in the brain. Dementia and memory loss are treatable. Most sufferers don’t or cannot help themselves. If dementia is left untreated, memory loss worsens. As dementia escalates in an individual, their plight becomes the families’ everyday responsibility to care for an adult as if they were a very small child. Dementia affects the caretaker in ways greater than the patient.

Gold has long been known to promote healthier skin, reduce the healing time of burns and clear up skin ulcers. For many years the Europeans have used colloidal gold to combat alcohol addiction. Again memory loss due to alcohol abuse affects the brain and a gold supplement would be the obvious choice.

Colloidal trace minerals derived from plant material are the easiest absorbed of all minerals. Single colloidal minerals such as silver, gold, and platinum can be electrically reduced to a size that is readily assimilated into the bloodstream.

This all-natural ingredient of our body is not replenished by the foods we eat. Our alternative is to seek out colloidal gold and other trace minerals to keep the required levels for a healthy body.

What is Ayurveda and Its Importance?

Ayurveda is a traditional holistic healing. Translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda means 'the science of life'. ayur means "life" and veda means "science. India system which largely depends on plant support to form major Chunk of its medicine. Most of the herbs, spices, seeds, roots, leaves, stems, petals and flowers are deeply ingrained in all Indian homes where 'home remedies' are popular. Even certain family members in some family are adept at curing even intricate disorders by simple and cost-effective formulations which, at times, have shown marvelous and astounding results.

All over the world today we are looking for a natural system of healing that is comprehensive and complete, that is not merely some curious form of folk healing but a real and rational system of medicine that is sensitive to both nature and the Earth. This is exactly what Ayurveda has to offer, for it has many thousand-year-old clinical traditions and a comprehensive natural method of treatment ranging from diet, herbs, and massage.

With Ayurveda, we learn the right diet for our individual type, how to improve our immune system, the keys to right use of sexual energy and rejuvenation, and a conscious way of life that can lift us to a new level of awareness in all our endeavors.

Without such natural wisdom as Ayurveda, we may find ourselves not only unhealthy but unhappy and spiritually confused.

Ayurveda Principles and Theory

Ayurveda system is the prominent user of herbs and its basic theory revolves round imbalance and vitiation of three humors (Doshas).

Ether (Akash), Air (Vayu), Fire (Agni), Water (Jal) and Earth (Prithvi) are the great five elements which underline all living systems. these elements are constantly changing and interacting and can be simplified into three Vitiations (Doshas). When these doshas remain under harmony and balance, the health of body does not get disturbed but, when their balance gets disturbed, a diseased state sets in.

The three doshas are vata (Wind), Pitta (Bile) and Kapha (Phlegm) and due to predominance of the one dosha, a person's personality is determined that is ' Vata-Prakriti', 'Pitta- Prakriti' or 'Kapha Prakriti'

Vata formed from ether and air, governs all movement in the mind and body and must be kept in good balance.

Pitta formed from fire and water, governs "all heat, metabolism, and transformation in the mind and body

Kapha formed from earth and water, cements the elements in the body, providing the material for physical structure

Each person has an individual blend of the three doshas, with one or sometimes two doshas predominating.

Common Herbs used in Ayurvedic Medicines

Amalaki (Amla or Indian Gooseberry or Emblica officinalis) - The fruit is reputed to have the highest content of vitamin C of any naturally occurring substance in nature. It maintains balance amongst three doshas and effectively controls digestive problems, strengthens the heart, normalizes cholesterol, prevents cancer, builds up and sustain defense mechanism, improves eye-sight and detoxifies the body.

Amla is said to have 20 times more vitamin C than an orange. The vitamin C content of amla is between 625mg - 1814mg per 100gms. Other studies show that amla increases red blood cell count and hemoglobin. A research team discovered that when Amla is taken regularly as a dietary supplement, it counteracts the toxic effects of prolonged exposure to environmental heavy metals, such as lead, aluminum and nickel.
Ashwagandha (Winter Cherry or Withania Somnifera)- Ashwagandha is one of the main herbs for promoting ojas and rejuvenating the body in Ayurveda. It is a well-known semen promoter and it treats impotency and infertility.

Clinical studies show that Ashwagandha has antibacterial, antitumor, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating properties. The strong anti-stress actions increase memory and learning capabilities. It has also found to be useful in Rheumatic and Arthritic disorders like pain, swelling etc

Summing up, it is a strong Aphrodisiac and has Immunomodulating, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and anti-stress properties which clearly shows why Ayurveda has such a high opinion of this herb as a general tonic.

Arjuna (Terminalia Arjuna) - It is a cardiac tonic of high quality. Terminalia arjuna, is known to be beneficial for the treatment of heart ailments since 500 BC. Clinical research has indicated its usefulness in relieving anginal pain, and in the treatment of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and possibly hypercholesterolemia.

"Terminalia arjuna bark extract, 500 mg 8 hourly, given to patients with stable angina with provocable ischemia on treadmill exercise, led to improvement in clinical and treadmill exercise parameters as compared to placebo therapy." Result of Clinical Research Conducted.

Improvement of cardiac muscle function and subsequent improved pumping activity of the heart seem to be the primary benefits of Terminalia Arjuna.

Brahmi (Bacopa, Gotu Kola) - Brahmi is known as "the food for the brain". Traditionally Brahmi is used as a mental tonic, to rejuvenate the body, as a promoter of memory and as a nerve tonic. It promotes a calm, clear mind, and improves mental function.

Modern Research claims that brahmi improves memory and helps overcome the negative effects of stress. Brahmi is especially suitable for students as it enhances the minds ability to learn and to focus and for an elderly person hoping to regain their memory. It is unique in its ability to invigorate mental processes whilst reducing the effects of stress and nervous anxiety.

As a nervine tonic, Brahmi has been used to help those affected by stroke, nervous breakdown or exhaustion, and Attention Deficit Disorder. The best Ayurvedic brain and memory formulas contain Brahmi, as do many of the long life promoting compounds.

Guggulu (Shuddha Guggulu, Guggul, Commiphora Mukul) - Modern Research shows that it is the prime Ayurvedic herb for treating obesity and high cholesterol. Studies show that Guggulu lowers serum cholesterol and phospholipids and that it also protects against cholesterol-induced atherosclerosis. Guggulu was seen to lower body weight in these clinical studies.

Guggulu also as anti-inflammatory properties and is effective in treating arthritis and other joint pains.

Karela (Bitter Melon, Bitter Gourd, Momordica Charantia) - At least three different groups of constituents have been reported to have blood sugar lowering actions in bitter Mellon. These include a mixture of steroidal saponins known as charantin, insulin-like peptides, and alkaloids. Scientific studies have consistently shown that bitter melon lowers blood sugar level of Type 2 Diabetes.

It could probably reduce the patient's intake of antidiabetic drugs. Also Bitter Melon has two proteins which are thought to repress the AIDS virus.

Recently, the Department of Health in the Philippines has recommended bitter melon as one of the best herbal medicines for diabetic management.

Neem (Azadirachta Indica) - Neem is an extraordinary blood purifier, good for all skin diseases like acne, eczema, psoriasis and teeth and gums. Neem is included in most Ayurvedic Skin products because it is as effective on an external application as through internal indigestion.

In Ayurveda, it has been safely used for over five thousand years and is a good immunity booster to prevent colds, fevers, infections and various skin diseases.

Shilajit (Mineral Pitch, Asphaltum) - Shilajit is one of the prime Ayurvedic compounds for rejuvenating the body. it is an aphrodisiac, anti-aging herb and to treat diabetes and debilitating urinary problems.

There is a folk saying by the indigenous people who live in the Himalayan region that Shilajit makes the body strong as a rock. It is an adaptogen, (Rasayna), that helps to combat immune disorders, urinary tract disorders, nervous disorders and sexual dissatisfaction.

Shallaki (Boswellia Serrata, Salai Guggul) - Modern Research indicates that the Boswellia herb may assist in treating joint mobility, pain, and maybe a useful remedy for a variety of inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. A recent clinical trial suggests positive effects of Boswellia serrata extract in knee osteoarthritis.

Boswellia has also been found to be useful for a number of other disorders and best for treating Back Pain, Knee Pain, Joint Pain, and Arthritis. This herb has also been proposed as a possible therapy for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Triphala (Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki) - Triphala has got the properties of three famous nutrients: amla, haritaki, and bibhitaki. The advantage of this formula is that it is milder in action and more balanced than any of the three alone.

It has cleansing and detoxifying action. Used regularly it is good for gentle, slow detoxification of the digestive tract and then the deep tissues. It also has the ability to normalize all three humors with continued use.

As a daily supplement Triphala is hard to beat; that' s why in India they say "even if your mother leaves you, everything will be fine if you have Triphala"

BINAURAL BEATS - The Holy Grail Of Self Improvement

Photo  by digitalbob8
This article is designed to give you some insight into the relatively new technology of Binaural Beats. Binaural Beats are specific frequencies that can bring you into a profoundly deep state of meditation within minutes using the latest innovations in sound technology. They utilize a specific audio mixing technique designed to alter the listener's brain wave activity. By sitting or lying down in a quiet environment and wearing headphones these beats can be used to create Alpha, Theta, and Delta brainwave patterns.

When brainwave patterns change it has been documented that there is also a change in chemical reactions within the body which can have a profound effect on your entire physical structure. In effect, these beats have the same impact and benefits of a deep meditative state akin to hypnologic trance or transcendental meditation. Now very few people can enter such deep states of hypnosis and transcendental meditation takes a lifetime to perfect. So the immediate benefits of using binaural beats are apparent.

An added benefit of using such technology is that the states it creates allow you to access the subconscious parts of the mind. Those parts that are subliminal and just below the conscious threshold. Binaural beats can be used with many other self-improvement tools (such as subliminal recordings, affirmations or visualization etc.) to increase your personal development dramatically as it creates deep states of relaxation and can put you into Alpha and Theta states. Therefore they can be used as an aid to alter beliefs, heal emotional issues or create behavior changes. They can even be used for a quick energy boost. It is believed that by using binaural beats you can:

1. Create deep states of meditation.
2. Boost your intelligence and creativity.
3. Slow aging.
4. Create remarkable emotional changes at a very deep level.
5. Eliminate Stress & anxiety.

The beauty of binaural beats is that they can be used to induce these states and create these changes with no effort on the part of the listener. You just wear a set of headphones and let the sound technology do the rest.

The discovery of binaural technology is mostly accredited to Dr. Gerald Oster. Oster first published research about binaural beats in 1973 in Scientific American after he had conducted extensive studies.

However, this is not as well known, binaural beats were in fact first discovered as far back as 1839 by an Associate Professor, at the University of Berlin, called Heinrich Wilhelm Dove. Dove accidentally discovered that when two similar sounds, that are only slightly shifted in frequency, are given separately to the left and right ear they cause a pulsation or beat type effect within the brain.

However, it was Dr. Oster who uncovered the full benefits of using this new technology when he discovered the effects that binaural beats have on the mind and body.

There are many producers of binaural beat technology competing in the market today. It is possible to create your own with the proper software. However, an in-depth knowledge of brainwave patterns and their effect on the mind and body is advisable before ever trying to create your own. There are many forum threads on the web that claim binaural beats have had a negative or even damaging effect on certain listeners. For that reason, I believe it is safer to stick to the tried and tested pre-made recordings that are available for a reasonable fee. You can purchase separate binaural beat recordings to induce almost any emotional state or you can even enroll in a binaural beat program for self-improvement that takes several years to complete.

I, myself, have no experience of any damaging effects due to the use of binaural beats. However, if you are using binaural beats for personal development purposes their use can be uncomfortable. All my experiences have been extremely positive, although not always pleasurable. Let me explain.

ECC machines have been used in the past to monitor the brain activity of life-long meditaters. While in a deep meditative state, these meditational experts, displayed alpha, theta and delta brainwave patterns. These are the very states that binaural beats create.

Alpha wave patterns in the brain occur in a relaxed state and during this time we are very susceptible to suggestion. This is the state that you enter during hypnosis. Theta brainwaves allow for the absorption of huge amounts of information while Delta brainwaves are most apparent when you enter a state of deep but dreamless sleep. It is the Delta state that is the main aim of such practices as transcendental meditation. Although for many entering the delta state while fully conscious can be very relaxing, for most it is not, for it is during such brain activity that internal change occurs.

By bringing the listener into this extremely deep state of meditation, binaural technology can activate major positive changes in your emotional, mental and physical make-up. Now, this can be a profoundly life-altering experience. You will find past buried memories resurface as the beats direct your brain to restructure its neural network and raise your "comfort level" to a new high. After several listening session, you find yourself less stressed out than before and your reaction to situations, that in the past would have sent you screaming around the halls, much more composed. The technology literally eliminates negative emotional, mental and physical patterns. The discomfort I spoke of earlier comes from the restructuring of your brain’s neural network as old buried uncomfortable memories are triggered in the brain before the connecting emotional response is wiped away. You are still left with the memory of the event but you no longer have any emotional attachment to it. Don’t worry, for some reason, it doesn’t affect positive memories! It may be due to the natural state of the mind and body, for this system of mind/body is always seeking equilibrium and harmony, which tends to lead to feelings of joy and happiness.

Binaural beats is a proven technology that can create brainwave changes which alter your mood and changes the chemical reactions in your body to encourage faster healing and harmonious interaction between cells. However, there is currently research being conducted to determine if these beats can actually direct the brain to reformat DNA encoding. If this is possible the possibilities are almost limitless - decrease in illness, genetic disorders, a reversal of aging etc.

If personal development and self-improvement isn’t your main aim for investigating binaural beats (and don’t want to get younger) then the single recordings designed to induce specific mind/body changes is enough. You can get recordings for an energy boost, meditation, to spark the creative areas of the brain, induce deep sleep and even one that acts like a digital drug!

All these changes happen effortlessly and easily. All you need is a pair of stereo headphones and a comfortable chair. The recording does the rest.
